Build status

This document contains an overview of the videos produced with the Tycho-Gaia Astrometric Solution part of the Gaia Data Release 1. This document is best viewed with a Markdown renderer (chrome, firefox). The videos have been captured with the Gaia Sky.

01 - Gaia becomes visible

This video contains a sky pan where Gaia becomes visible from the left and leaves the view to the right.

02 - Galaxy to Gaia

This video starts outside of the Milky Way Galaxy. The camera moves slowly towards the Sun, passing thousands of TGAS stars to finally reach the Solar System and ultimately the Gaia Satellite. Camera orbits gaia for a while.

03 - Earth to M44

This video starts with the camera orbiting Earth. After a few seconds, the camera pans towards M44 and then it starts a forward movement to the open cluster. Once there, it orbits it and, in some versions, proper motion arrows are shown.

04 - Flight to Aldebaran and the Hyades

This video starts at Gaia, then the camera pans to look towards the Hyades and it starts a slow forward movement until we pass Aldebaran and reach the cluster.

05 - Planetarium

This is a long 8 minute video produced initially for Planetaria. The camera starts orbiting Earth. Then it moves past the Moon and to Gaia, orbiting it for a while. Then it focuses on the Hyades, moves there, orbits and puts its focus back on the Sun. It moves towards the Sun but not too close, orbiting around the Solar Neighbourhood. Finally, it moves backwards out until it exits the Milky Way, providing a view of the Galaxy.

06 - Solar System, Hyades and Milky Way

This video starts with a general view of the Solar System. Then it moves away focusing on the Hyades, which it orbits for a few seconds. After that, the camera moves out until the whole Milky Way is in view.
