Yiannis Tsapras
- I am a Senior Scientist at the Zentrum für Astronomie, Heidelberg University. Prior to this appointment, I worked for the Las Cumbres Observatory (2007-2014). Between 2012 and 2014 I was also a Teaching Fellow at the School of Physics and Astronomy, Queen Mary University where I taught Physics for the Science and Engineering Foundation Programme and a MSc course on Extrasolar Planets and Astrophysical Discs.
- I received a PhD in Astronomy from the University of St Andrews in 2003 and a MSc in Radioastronomy from the University of Manchester in 1999.
- The main focus of my research is the study of exoplanets, and I work with international teams that use the complementary techniques of microlensing, radial velocity and transits to discover new planets orbiting distant stars. I was PI of the ROME/REA microlensing Key Project on the LCO robotic telescope network. The project was supported by a DFG grant as part of the Priority Programme "Exploring the Diversity of Extrasolar Planets" (SPP 1992). Besides exoplanets, I have a keen interest in robotic astronomy, variable stars, ongoing dark-matter surveys, CMB cosmology, and public science outreach programs.
