Yiannis Tsapras
- I am a Staff Scientist at the Zentrum für Astronomie at Heidelberg University. Before coming to Heidelberg, I worked for the Las Cumbres Observatory from 2007 to 2014. During the last two years of that period, I also served as a Teaching Fellow at the School of Physics and Astronomy at Queen Mary University of London, where I taught undergraduate-level physics as part of the Science and Engineering Foundation Programme, as well as a Master's-level course on extrasolar planets and astrophysical discs.
- I received a PhD in Astronomy from the University of St Andrews in 2003 and an MSc in Radio Astronomy from the University of Manchester in 1999.
- My research focuses on the discovery and characterization of exoplanets. I work with international teams that employ complementary detection techniques, including radial velocity and transits, though most of my time is dedicated to microlensing. I was Principal Investigator of the ROME/REA microlensing Key Project on the Las Cumbres Observatory (LCO) robotic telescope network. This project was supported by a grant from the German Research Foundation (DFG) as part of the Priority Programme "Exploring the Diversity of Extrasolar Planets" (SPP 1992). Beyond exoplanets, my interests include robotic astronomy, variable stars, dark-matter surveys, cosmic microwave background (CMB) cosmology, and public science outreach programs.
