Basel/Heidelberg Workshop on the
Structure and Evolution
of the Milky Way
and Its Surroundings
|
Workshop format:
After arrival on Sunday afternoon, the workshop will begin on Monday
morning (December 6, 2004) and end on Thursday at 11:30
(December 9, 2004).
Talk times will be 20 to 30 min including discussion. Due to
the limited capacity of the site and the short time frame of
only 3.5 days, participation and talks are by invitation only.
There will also be a possibility to present posters as well as
room for intensive discussions.
Proceedings:
There will be no proceedings. Instead we are making available copies
of the presentations shown during the workshop (provided
the speakers sent us a copy of these). You can download these
presentations via this
link.
Registration:
We will not charge a registration fee. The workshop is now completely
booked out. The registration link has therefore been removed.
(Deadline for registrations was September 15, 2004.)
Location, accommodation, and logistics:
The workshop will be held at
Ringberg Castle
in Bavaria, Germany. Ringberg Castle, the conference site of the
Max Planck Society, is about 50 km south of Munich
near the small town of Rottach-Egern and Lake Tegernsee. When
arriving by plane, the closest airport is Munich airport. Ringberg
can be reached get by train and cab, or by car. For instructions
please see this
link. If you plan to travel to Ringberg by train, you can check
out the time table of the train connections
here (recommended
destination: Tegernsee).
We recommend to schedule your travel such that you arrive on
Sunday afternoon, December 5, and depart on Thursday afternoon, December 9,
at 11:30 a.m. We cannot enter the castle's premises prior to Sunday
afternoon and need to vacate the castle on Thursday before noon
(
NOTE: We recently learned that we need to leave Ringberg at 11:30 a.m.
instead of 2 p.m., which also necessitated a number of changes in the
program). Persons travelling by car are advised to mount
snow tires as the weather conditions around Ringberg will probably be
winterly.
Due to space limitations at Ringberg Castle, the number of attendees
is limited. In addition to the rooms available at Ringberg, a number
of participants has been accommodated at
a nearby hotel, the Gästehaus Leykauf, and at Hotel Parkresidenz.
Transport to the castle will be provided by minivan by the LOC free of
charge (participants staying in hotels were informed about this by
separate mail).
For more information including prices for lodging and meals at the
conference site please refer to
this URL. Important note: If you share a room at Ringberg with another
conference participant or with another person, please note that each
of you will have to pay the full price, i.e., you will unfortunately not
save money by sharing a room.
